Hirofumi Yoshida was born in 1968. He earned the
bachelor's degree at the Tokyo College of music conducting
department, as well as post graduate course. He studied
conducting under Yasuhiko Shiozawa, Jun'ichi Hirokami
and Yujiro Tsuda, piano under Yukiko Okafuji, double
bass under Mitsuru Onozaki, and musicology with Reiko
Arima and Tomiko Kojiba. Moreover, he has been involved
in numerous opera productions as an assistant of Shigeo
Genda.
In 1994 through 1995, he studied conducting with
Hans Graf and Julius Karlman at the Vienna National
University of Music, master course, receiving a diploma.
In the year 1996 he studied under Myung-Whun Chung
and Yuri Temirkanov at the Musical Accademia Chigiana,
master course. In August, he was a laureate of the
19th Master Players International Conducting Competition
in Valsolda, Italy. From 1994 to 1999, he was the
assistant mainly for the Nikikai Opera Promotion Association,
and was involved in masterpieces of Mozart such as
"Magic Flute", "Le Nozze di Figaro",
and "Cosi Fan Tutte".
In 2000 he was chosen as one of the trainees to study
abroad by the Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs, and
moved to Europe where he studied at the Bayern National
Opera Theater, Mannheim National Opera Theater, and
the Malmo Opera Theater (Sweden). At the Malmo Opera
Theater, he was involved mainly in Italian operas
such as "Aida", "Turandot" and
"Tosca". In Mannheim and Bayern Theaters,
he participated in many operas as an assistant of
Jun Markl.
In 2001, he was chosen as the preliminary Asian nominee
at the Maazel/Vilar Conductor's Competition.
In 2002, Mr. Yoshida was awarded the Most Promising
Young Talent Prize in the Opera Division of the Gotoh
Memorial Cultural Award. He was the first conductor
in history to receive the award, which made him do
further studies in Rome.
In 2003, he earned a scholarship from Rohm Music
Foundation, and as a special research trainee, he
has been studying at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
As an assistant of Nello Santi, Mr. Yoshida has been
involved in operas such as "La Boheme",
"I Capuleti e i Montecchi", and "Tosca",
and has studied with several maestros at the Teatro
dell'Opera di Roma. In May of 2005, he conducted "Cavalleria
Rusticana" and "Rigoletto" with the
ensemble members of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma,
and made his debut in Rome. He was engaged as a Principal
Guest Conductor of Adygeya Republic National Symphony
Orchestra in Russia.
Mr. Yoshida has conducted in numerous orchestras
such as the Cadaques Festival Philharmonic Orchestra,
Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra,
New Philharmonic Orchestra, Adygeya Republic National
Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Japan Symphony Orchestra,
and the Philharmonia Eterna. In 2003 he was engaged
as a Principal Guest Conductor of Adygeya Republic
National Symphony Orchestra in Russia. His domestic
activities as a conductor include performances with
the Nikikai Opera Promotion Association, Nissei Theatre,
Mito Theatre, Fuchu Civic Opera, Funabashi Civic Opera,
Ichikawa Opera Promotion Association, Yokohama City
Opera and many more. Escecially with the Ichikawa
Opera, he took and important part as an assistant
for the Japan premiere of "Le Villi" and
"La Rondine", and performed several works
by Puccini, such as "Tosca". He has been
the music director of the Ichikawa Opera since 2004.
In 2005, he won the 3rd prize at the 1st International
Opera Conducting Competition in Memoriam Bela Bartok
in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. After that, he made his debut
with the Transylvania Symphony Orchestra in Romania,
and performances with the Budapest Concert Orchestra(MAV
Szimfonikus Zenekar). He performed with the Tokyo
Philharmonic Orchestra in the Gala Concert of the
15th Anniversary of the Gotoh Memorial Cultural Foundation,
and the transcription concerts of Toyama City Philharmonic
Orchestra.
In the season of 2006, Mr. Yoshida is engaged with
concerts such as the Nippon television program "Midnight
Concert" with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra,
performances with the Narashino Philharmonic Orchestra,
the opera "Magic Flute", "Suol Angelica",
and the Asia premiere of Puccini's opera "Edgar",
as well as performances with the Keio Wagner Society
Orchestra at the Musikvereinsaal(Vienna) and Smetana
Hall(Prague). In April, he will conduct the "Firebird"
at the Trieste Opera House with the theTeatro dell'Opera
di Roma Ballet company, and in October he will perform
at the San Remo Music Festival Gala concert (with
a National RAI television on air all over Italy),
and moreover, in the fall, he has concerts coming
up at Seoul and other international cities with theTeatro
dell'Opera di Roma and Shanghai Opera house.
Mr. Yoshida is the artistic director of the Ichikawa
Opera, and a special professor at the Toho College
of Music and the graduate school. He currently lives
in Rome.
In 2006, He will be installed as Direttore principale
stabile of Teatro del Giglio di Lucca and Direttore
musicale di LUCCA PUCCINI OPERA fesival. (Up dated
