Profile

A native of Chiba prefecture, Ms. Sudo was born in 1987. She currently lives in Utsunomiya, Tochigi prefecture. She started learning in Yamaha Music School, following the Yamaha Master Class Elementary course (1996), and the Yamaha Master Class (1998). Her teachers include Fumiko Eguchi and Shinji Urakabe.
In September 1995, Ms. Sudo performed a Mozart concerto with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Naozumi Yamamoto at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space. In November of the same year, she was the winner of the 6th annual Tochigi Piano Competition elementary third and fourth grade division. In August 1997, she won gold prize in level D of PTNA piano competition, also receiving the Special Mention prize, and other prizes. Three months later, she was the third prize winner for the 51st annual All Japan Student Music Competition east Japan elementary grade. In December, she performed in the 2nd annual Christmas Charity Concert held in Kumamoto.
In August 1998, Ms. Sudo won the sixth annual Etlingen International Competition A- category (15 years old and younger) in Germany. A month later, she performed the Mozart concerto at Casals Hall with the Tokyo Academia Symphonica Philharmonic conducted by Hirotaka Ozaki.
March 1999, she was awarded as the "Honorable Utsunomiya citizen" for her successful activities.
The following year she took part in the "Bunin Gala Concert" managed by Stanislav Bunin at Suntory Large hall.
In March, she made three solo recitals in different places as a sister-city exchange friendship ambassador.
June 2001, Ms. Sudo participated in the "Auvers-Sur-Oise International Music Festival" in France. A year later, she was the youngest semi-finalist in the senior division of the sixth Vladimir Krainev International Competition, held in Ukraine. In August, she won silver place in 26th annual PTNA Piano Competition G grade, also receiving the Oji prize and many others. In December she took part in the Oji Prize Winners Concert held in Oji Hall.
In August 2003, she became fifth prize in the eighth Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition. In November she won fourth place in the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition.
In March of 2004, she performed in the ninth Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Opening Concert at Act City Hamamatsu.
In October 2003, Ms. Sudo performed her own solo recital "Rina Sudo Piano Recital" at Sagawa Bunko Hall in Mito.
Ms. Sudo participated in the "Yamaha Gala Concert 2004" at Orchard Hall performing the Prokofieff Piano Concerto No.3, and the Opening Concert of the 9th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy in 2004. She performed a solo concert at the Teenager Artist Series at Toppan Hall.
Her 2005 year started with a special guest performance with the Yomiuri Japan Symphony, a recital at Meguro Hall, concerto performance with Tochigi Symphony, as well as a concert in Germany. She participated in the 21st International Chopin Festival in Austria. August, she was awarded the second Yasuko Fukuda Scholarship Award.
In 2006, Ms. Sudo won the Fifth Prize in the 7th Dublin International Piano Competition in Ireland. She was also the youngest prizewinner and highest Japanese winner. She was one of the guest concerto performer in the PTNA 40th Anniversary Concert with the NHK Symphony conducted by Kazumasa Watanabe, and she was the soloist in the Rising Star Concert Series at Nasunogara Harmony Hall.
In 2007, she appeared in the subscription concert of Tochigi Symphony, and received a special award from the mayor of Utsunomiya. She has played in concerts in Italy, United States, France, and United Kingdom.
